Part one of this workfow: creation. I’d devise a selection of names that factored in the cognitive area the game focused on, the visual metaphor the designers chose, and Lumosity’s trademark playful tone (which I also helped refine) into their compact two-word titles.
Part two: selection. Since product names had multiple stakeholders, I developed an objective set of criteria they could use to decide on a name. Criteria included sound, look, and “layers”, ie the amount of ways the name could be resonant to the user.
NAMING
LumositY PRODUCT NAMING
For Lumosity, product = games. As the lead writer for this publisher of brain training games, I was regularly consulted to name the new ones. But I took my responsibilities further by creating and instituting a naming workflow for the game design team.
